Account & Data Deletion

Last updated: August 18, 2026

Audiobook Librarian is a client app: it connects to a server that you, or whoever set up your library, has chosen. Your account and library data live on that server, not with us — so how you delete them depends on which server you're connected to. Find your case below.

Not sure which one applies to you? Open the app and go to Settings → Backend to see the type of server your account is connected to.

AbLibrarian Lite (hosted by us — lite.ablibrarian.com, sync.ablibrarian.com)

If your account is on our own hosted AbLibrarian Lite service, we operate that server directly and can delete your account and data for you:

  • From the app: Settings → Account → Delete Account.
  • Without the app: go to lite.ablibrarian.com/login, sign in with the email address on your account (we'll email you a one-time code — no password needed), then open your Profile page and choose Delete Account.

Either way, your account becomes inaccessible immediately and is permanently erased after 30 days. We'll email you a link to cancel during that window if you change your mind.

Full AbLibrarian Server (self-hosted)

If your library is on a full AbLibrarian Server — typically run by you or by a friend or family member on their own hardware — we have no access to that server or your data on it. Deletion is handled by whoever administers that server:

  • From the app, if you still have it: Settings → Account → Delete Account works the same way regardless of who hosts your server.
  • Without the app: visit your server's own web address followed by /login (for example https://your-server.example.com/login), sign in with your account email, then open your Profile page and choose Delete Account. This only works if your server administrator is running a recent version of AbLibrarian Server — ask them if you're not sure.
  • If neither of those works (older server version, or you no longer have access), ask whoever administers your server to delete your account and data directly — they have full access to the server and its database.

Plex, Audiobookshelf, Google Drive, Dropbox, and other connected backends

For every other backend the app can connect to, that backend's own account belongs entirely to that service, not to Audiobook Librarian — we never create, manage, or store an account on your behalf there. To delete your account or data:

  • Plex: manage or delete your account at plex.tv, or delete the library/media on your own Plex server if you administer it.
  • Audiobookshelf: ask the administrator of your Audiobookshelf server to remove your account — Audiobookshelf servers are independently self-hosted, the same as a full AbLibrarian Server.
  • Google Drive / Dropbox: these connect using your own Google or Dropbox account to browse and download files you already control; delete or manage that data directly in Google Drive or Dropbox. You can also revoke Audiobook Librarian's access from that provider's connected-apps settings at any time.
  • Local folder / no backend: your library lives only on your device. Uninstalling the app, or clearing its storage in your device's app settings, removes all local library and listening data.

In every case above, uninstalling the app also deletes any data cached locally on your device, regardless of which backend you were connected to.
